Hi, welcome to lessonswithtroy.com. Today’s song is going to be a Christmas song “A Way in The Manger.” We are going to do this in G. It is in 3/4 time and let us just go and get started with those first three measures.
Those first three measures, measures one, two and three in your tab, it starts with the pick up note on B3 in measure one and those three measures sounds like this slowly.
[Demonstration]
Once again.
[Demonstration]
This arrangement is how to try to keep it fairly simple, so you can really work on your intonation, on your technique and this is for beginners and also for the people that might want to really focus in on their intonation with the slow songs. So, let’s start off with.
[Demonstration]
An open first string here.
[Demonstration]
And here you’re going to roll with your sixth string, second string and first string all over the G chord. I’ll show you the right hand in just a second. But, the measure number two will sound like this.
[Demonstration]
Roll the sixth, second and first string, sounds like that and then an open fourth string, and then one, two, zero on my second string.
[Demonstration]
Okay, and that third measure sounds like this.
[Demonstration]
I’m talking about real quick rolls, I’ll show that with the right hand but you don’t have to do that one. Each time on the tab, I have a little arrow that’s pointing up, that means you really quick roll that chord.
[Demonstration]
So that measure numbers three, it sounds like this.
[Demonstration]
We’re doing sixth, third and second strings roll and then, second fret on my third string we have open third string.
[Demonstration]
So once again all three measures one, two, and three.
[Demonstration]
Now let’s look it at the right hand, the right hand looks like this slowly.
[Demonstration]
Okay, so I start up with taking that first note with my middle finger and doing that roll.
[Demonstration]
Roll, quick down, index, middle.
[Demonstration]
Just a little ornamentation you can either do that or you can pick them at the same time.
[Demonstration]
Either way, I will leave it all up to you whichever one you think the sounds the best.
[Demonstration]
And I do thumb on my fourth string there and the move my finger on my second string.
[Demonstration]
I’m going to do the measurement three to this roll, and sixth, third and second string.
[Demonstration]
That is two to zero on my third string.
[Demonstration]
So, my third string is picking up my index.
[Demonstration]
Okay now, if you really want to pay attention to intonation, and especially with the song this slow. You really make sure you’re in tune.
[Demonstration]
We really started it out slow and really pay close attention to your intonation or your tuning to the song. Let’s move on to measure number four.
