Does the Depth of the Relationship Determine the Breakup

Toni Coleman: Hi I am Toni Coleman and I am a dating and relationship expert and today we are talking about how to break-up with someone.
Host: Does the length and seriousness of the relationship determine how you should break-up?
Toni Coleman: It does in the sense that if you are defining relationship as you have gone out more than a couple of times which is how I would define a relationship then yes, if you have a long term relationship of more than six months, more than a couple of years. It's definitely going to be important to spend some real time on talking about what happened, what went wrong, what's working or not working for you in the relationship and be prepared to be answering questions and dealing with a lot of emotion.
If you have been going out for three months and what I consider the first stage of a relationship, then it's going to require so much input or as much discussion. There certainly will be that if you do it right, but it's not the same as a long-term relationship, where you have invested a great deal and the other person has invested a great deal of time and energy.
