Dog Training - Teaching Your Dog to Stop Jumping Up

My name is Enrico Cross, owner and trainer of Take the Lead Dog Training and what we re showing you today is basic introduction to dog training. One of the big problems that people have with their dogs is their problem of jumping up, on you or on strangers or your friends and everybody. Nobody really wants the dog to jump up on them.
So what I am going to show you today in this video is how to get the dog to stop doing that action. There are several things that you can do; you can use a knee bump; you can make the dog miss or you can use a leash with a pinch collar on so that you can correct the dog, making to get down; but the one thing that you don t want to do is to use your hands. One of the reasons for not using your hands is because as soon as you touch the dog, what you re teaching to dog is, good dog, that s what you re communicating to the dog as soon as you touch him.
Okay. So let s see if we can get one of these dogs to jump upon me. Okay, what a good boy! Okay, off; what a good boy! So that s a knee bumps. Okay, yup, okay, off; good boy! Okay, let s and. So that s basically some of the process that you go through to see to dogs that it get off you. It s good to have a dog that s trained because if he is jumping up, you can give him a command just like as you saw in the video and he drops right down to the command. What I should have mentioned in the beginning also is that the problems, the reason why a lot of people s dogs jump up on them is because they get excited and then the dog gets excited, so now the dog jumps all over you.
So if you learn to control your emotions then you can also teach your dog to be calm and not jump up on you.
