Shayne Dye: Hi. I’m Shayne and this is Jan and this is the Tie Dye Grill. This is our Indy.
Male: Dude, we got to start the show man!
Seth Hancock: Do we have to, really?
Male: Do check it’s great.
Seth Hancock: Intense?
Male: Dude definitely check.
Seth Hancock: What about the odor?
Male: Dude, not you man, stupid.
Seth Hancock: Hey dude what about the camera?
Male: I though you agree now.
Seth Hancock: No dude, that’s all in your show.
Male: Oh dude.
Seth Hancock: Dude that will take us so blooming man. That’s why this week, we’re coming to you from the East side and the place called the Tie Dye Grill.
Alright, so when you come to the Tie Dye Grill you’re going to see these people because well, they’re always here, they’re the owners. Its Jan and Shayne Dye hence the name Tie Die here and you guys have been in business for a little over how long now?
Jan Dye: 18 months.
Seth Hancock: So about a year and a half, well, okay that is a year and a half, duh! I’m a smart guy. Anyway, so you guys have been in business for a year and a half now. Tell me and tell our audience how did this whole thing get started?
Jan Dye: We took the buy out from the Ford Motor Company and decided we want to do what we really like doing and we like feeding people. It came up with the name quite by accident. Reset the family down and we’ve talked about it. Set a room and table and I was wearing a tie dye culture so it just kind of went tie dye, Tie Dye Grill.
Seth Hancock: This is really kind of a family establishment. The people just love coming here because the food is so good and it’s just I guess the way you treat people.
Shayne Dye: It’s just what we enjoy doing. We like to put a little love in the food and the people on the East side have just sort of really, really embraced us and many keep coming back and keep coming back and keep coming back and we keep opening in the morning.
They say we have got the best rogue in Indianapolis. We cooked the corned beef right here in the restaurant. Jan makes the Thousand Island dressing homemade. We’ve got our ten ounce hamburgers hand patted never frozen. You have to try the French fries and the onion rings. The onion rings are outrageous and everybody seems to really like these.
Seth Hancock: And I hear you put a little special seasoning on the fries called Shayne’s salt?
Shayne Dye: Its Tie Dye magic.
Seth Hancock: Is it?
Shayne Dye: Its Tie Dye magic.
Seth Hancock: You guys have something really unique going on tonight with Ricky Friedman, which every Wednesday you have live music here.
Shayne Dye: Right, Ricky comes in about five to—well, actually he shows up about 4:30 so he can eat before he performs and then he goes up there and plays his own little brand of music. Does little Bob Dylan, some Neil Young, Grateful Dead and some—
Seth Hancock: And when he’s not playing on the big screen you guys have different concerts from different performers. There’s always music going on here.
Shayne Dye: For a little bit, yeah there’s always music. We’ve got people coming in and want to watch the ballgames and sorry that’s not how we grow.
Seth Hancock: Yeah, it’s about music, yes.
Shayne Dye: It’s about the music and the love and you know the summer of love and we just sort of happened to drag it out 30 years later.
Seth Hancock: Very nice one, I’m looking forward to trying what you guys have and then finishing it of to the Tie Dye brownie. You guys have been great and I just look forward. I think its just time to eat now.
Jan Dye: Alright.
Shayne Dye: Ready to cook for you.
Seth Hancock: Yeah.
Seth Hancock: What’s the environment like for you?
Male: It’s pretty cool. I was laid back. Everybody’s pretty nice and slow.
Seth Hancock: Yeah.
Shayne Dye: Everybody talks to you like they like you to come back. The food is good.
Seth Hancock: Food is really good.
Male: Yeah
Seth Hancock: And you’re a having a hotdog with some—it looks like homemade relish.
Male: Yeah.
Seth Hancock: Yeah, it’s got the works on it.
Male Yeah, that’s right
Female: You can’t go wrong with any other food here.
Seth Hancock: Really.
Female: Really
Seth Hancock: Do you think, do you feel the same way Heather?
Heather: Oh yeah, for sure, and everything just feels right up.
Seth Hancock: Really?
Heather: They make such big portion of things, their hamburgers are huge and steaks are thick, it’s nice.
Seth Hancock: Okay, all I can say is wow. This place, the Tie Dye Grill is absolutely phenomenal. You guys have to get down here. They treat you like family, the food is wonderful and the atmosphere is just amazing. I know you guys hear me say this all the time but this place is great.
I mean just look at the menu. You got like the Janice Chaplin chicken, the Jimmy Hendrix dish. The only thing is missing is like the Jim Morrison hotdog where it’s like a hotdog floating in a top of water.
That’s just me. So for Doing Indy, I’m your host, Seth Hancock and remember an Indianapolis its always so easy to do so much. You just have to get out there and do something. See you next week.
