What's up everyone? Jon Rettinger here if you go through and check out my videos, you notice I don’t do that many app reviews. But the ones I do or generally think that I really like and want to share with you guys and this is one of those videos. The app I want to review is Doom Resurrection. I've always got kind of soft spot in my heart for Doom. I remember being really little and my parents had this garbage old, old, old Mac and I remember calling ID software, the guys who made them.
Almost on a weekly basis asking when is your Mac version coming out. When is your Mac version coming out? And they always got the same answer “We don’t know, coming soon”. And I'm so jealous about my friends that were playing Doom on Windows 3.0 and when it finally came to Mac I remember how excited I was.
So that Doom is one of the games that really have kind of always got another soft spot at my heart. So when I saw that there was Doom game for the iPhone, I figured I had to give it a whirl. This will run you $9.99 in the App Store. It was just about $10.00 and of course it will play on your iPod and iPod Touch. So let me go ahead and show you what it looks like.
One just gets the ID software and actually it looks very similar to Doom 3 as far as plotting stuff goes and this actually game was built just for the iPhone if it wasn’t a part of another game. It got some nice music in the background. Let me just pull the camera in and one of the nice things I like about this game is you can pause right where you are and resume at another time. So you go ahead and hit the zoom and I will show you how things work. And the quality of the game and the graphics wise really is fantastic. It looks almost PS1, PSP quality. I mean it really does look very good and maybe a little bit shade below that but for the iPhone it's fantastic.
And this is again on a 3GS. So the control scheme is actually a pretty cool and relatively unique and it works very well. So the way it works is you tilt your phone and then loose it accordingly but actually it's pretty accurate as tilt it will move. So the electron that’s talking to me, I could ignore him. So the guy is coming. You can shake the controller and you hurt him, so you move it around just by using the accelerometer and it's actually pretty accurate and it would adjust to where you want to be. You fire using the fixed fire button down below which I’ll do right now.
Reload and then your reload button on top. You did a really nice job taking every difficult control scheme for our first person shooter I think without any physical buttons and made it very easy to use. So that the fire button, you guys talk to you of the fire button there is switch weapons button at the top. You can see how much energy you have left, how much health you have, you could pick up items just by tapping on them and it really just does work well in some very fun game like I really recommend it. So there was a guy that’s blew him up with the shotgun but you can just say that’s a very fun game and it does seem to be pretty in-depth on the couple of levels in, some depth there are many more at levels to go.
And you can always calibrate controls if it gets little off for you. It takes a few minutes to get used to but you definitely will. It's a little about the expensive side, I know but if looking for a fun immersive game that you know that you can pause and come back to later. Doom Resurrection really is a great way to go and I highly recommend it plus it's Doom on your iPhone Mac. If you feel like me you’ve always have a love doing it and the first person shooter games. It's a great way to always kind of bring that genre with you in your pocket. So hope you guys enjoy it and one last thing that I want to mention and everybody kind of like free stuff. I'm giving an Apple TV. There’s a company called Moonfruit that does web posting and they offer you some web building tools. They are giving away a Mac Book Pro.
