Derrick Schommer: Today, we’re going to do the Double Crosser. This is a recipe that we received as part of the Double Cross Vodka. Although this is a double cross recipe if you don’t have double cross you don’t want to run out and get it for $40.00, use what vodka you have. You also are going to need some peach schnapps and I think we just use that not so long ago so if you follow it along with the recipes you probably have it or now you have a reason to buy it.
This is where it gets weird, we’re going to use two juices, we’re going to go with a 100% juices because we like to maintain our health and stuff. So this is a 100% grape fruit juice and a 100% grape juice; grape and grape fruit juice. We haven’t use grape fruit juice on the show. If you could find the small one like these tiny ones like a six pack or whatever I would go with those because we’re not using a lot of grape fruit juice in here and you could make many of this but, we’re not using that much, this will last your lifetime. Since it doesn’t last a lifetime try the smaller vol.
So what we’ll do is just going to go on cocktail glass as per the recipe, shaking, we’re going to squeeze a little lime in there, we’re going to garnish it with lime and this is lime not lemon. I guess it’s pretty much good to go, let’s do it up. So we’re going to toss my ice in early. The reason is it’s hot up here and doing it right now it’s pretty warm wherein an area that’s warm so my goal is first of with all the extra ice I’m hoping that it will chill the glass a little bit, the mixing the glass. And I’m going to pour the alcohol which is getting hot over the ice tea to bring it back down a temperature that’s desirable.
So we’re going to measure out two ounces of the Double Cross Vodka. These things are actually kind of hard to pour with, nice bottle design but, it leaves some issues when you try to get a good pour. So we’ll do that and get backwards so it’s cools right on it. So, we’re going to do at the two ounces. then we’ll do the all the alcohol. We’re going to do a half an ounce of peach schnapps, just a little bit, the strings got a lot of juices in it and it’s very dynamic. If you're looking for something that’s got a lot of unique flavors that you kind of pick a part and pull out and impress friends this might be exact coaching that you would have.
We’re going to do an ounce of just regular of grape juice and that’s going to give you your color as well. You can use white grape fruit juice but, I suggest regular fruit juice.
Female: Grape which is being grape fruit.
Derrick Schommer : Oh is that grape. Okay regular grape juice. We’ve got grape fruit juice. The grape fruit juice can clear, I think you can get a clear grape fruit juice too but stick with the red grape juice, yellow grape fruit juice. We’re going to do a half an ounce and that’s not that much. But if you’ve ever had grape fruit you probably understand why it’s only half an ounce, it doesn’t’ take much really to impress your senses. So just pour that in there and we’re going to squeeze the lime over the drink and you know what I’m just going to dump in there because I like the little extra zest so that’s just keeps it marinating in there a little longer marinating.
We’ll shake that up and we’re going to pour to a frosted martini glass or frosted cocktail glass and in this case it’s not frosted because it’s hot. Shake it up and there we go up to our strainer, and dump a little bit in here that’s what you. You might make enough specifically depending on the size of your cocktail glass, you might be able to fit the whole contents. If it’s only half you get two drinks and we’ll throw it in little garnish there.
So there’s your presentation. It’s got a little pink, slightly pink color to it. Let’s try that out. It got a lot of flavor. It got a lot of juicy flavor that the core is going to definitely be a great peach kind of play vodka is completely silent as it should be in this type of drink. You don’t want to get that like really raw ethanol taste to Double Cross vodka, maybe that’s why they put two masses in here and they don’t really have a problem with it because it is really smooth, it’s ultra premium. So you’re looking at top shelf brand here and with top shelf you get complete silence in your drink.
The end finish is a little grape fruit that little sour bite in the grape fruit, grapes, peaches, exactly what you’d expect from the combinations that are in here, so that’s not too bad. Not really getting a lot of lime maybe just a little to balance out some of the sweetness in the peach schnapps. Overall, definitely well designed drink. This is something that a mixologist would be proud of inventing with all these different combinations of ingredients coming together and you’re tasting good. A little fruit very well balanced, not too sour, not too sweet so, well rounded cocktail.
