Hi, I am Brad Davis and I want to just talk a little bit about open tuning. I did a song called, “Petty Coat Blues” and it is on YouTube, my YouTube site and I use an open tuning. That is kind of unusual. It is a simple tuning but if you do not know it, it is a little tough to figure out. What I like to do is take the low E string and I like to raise it all the way to G. [Music playing] So, just play your G note and the low E at the same time [Music playing]. Match the tones, and then take your A string and the G string and bring your A down to G. [Music playing] So, basically, we got a double G on top and everything else as standard below. [Music playing]
You can get a great sound out of it specially if you rotate in pulse the bass with your pinky and use these two fingers to grab melody notes. [Music Playing] That was a blues approach to using this open tuning. I was also using my fingers in addition to my pick and if you want to see more about that, go to the YouTube site and check out check and pick a video and by Robert Johnson video.
Now, I am going to show you how I use it in a little different situation. Not Bluesy but Blue Grass ones. There is a tune called, “Cypress Walls”, that is on the YouTube site as well and it is kind of little bit different approach to it. It is Blue Grass, but with the open G tuning, sounds like this on the solo [Music playing].
