Hello, I am Dina Prioste and welcome to Get Exercised. Happy, happy holidays. I hope you are enjoying whatever holiday you happen to celebrate at this time of the year. In preparation for an arm balance next week, today we will be doing some hip opening. What does hip opening have to do with arm balancing you may ask? Well, keep watching and you will find out. So there, back in episode number eight I showed you the Pigeon pose, today we will be doing the double pigeon. Yes, yes, yes that is completely hotness.
Bring your left shin straight out in front of you and grab the right foot in. You can either hold this foot here, bring the arms underneath or you can cradle the shin in like you would a baby, but not a baby pigeon because those are hard to find. Now begin to rock from side to side, just feel that right hip start to stretch out. Ooh, that indeed feels good.
Now take the right ankle and place it on top of the left knee. Looking down, your legs should look like a triangular shape, not like a Lotus pose. You want to keep both feet flat. Take a deep inhale and exhale, fold forward until you are feeling that stretch in the right hip. It maybe screaming. For extra credit points you can take this leg and see if you can bring the leg over the shoulder to stretch out here.
If double pigeon isn't in the cards for you yet, you can do this alternative pose or the hip stretch that's in episode 51. Pigeons have the ability to recognize all 26 letters of the English alphabet and they are one of only six species that can recognize their own reflection in a mirror. Double pigeon is a deeper hip stretch than the original pigeon pose. Don't forget to do extra credit on the other side.
