Down on the Corner Guitar Lesson Part 1
[Demonstration]
We’re going to take a look at “Down on the Corner”. A couple of things I really like about this song—one is, very simple little riff based on a 1, 4, 5 progression in the key of C. We’ll talk a little bit more about that—the 1, 4 and 5, 3 chords in the key of C—C, F and G.
We do need to play some bar chords, although a little—the F can be played as a small chord. But what most I want to talk about rhythm and stuff when we get to the breaking down segment of this lesson. So again, we have a very simple riff based on notes out of the C scale, and then a kind of cool syncopated strumming pattern. So this is a little more complicated and just start normal down, down, up, up, down type strum; we’re going to work on a strum that has two different parts to it where in one measure you do one thing, and in the next measure you do something else—a lot of syncopation where there a bunch of ups in a row.
So let’s take a look at what the hands have to do and then we’ll work on playing through “Down on the Corner”
