Two years ago, this robotic device performing bypass surgery was the wave of the future. Well, the future is here.
Joseph Wagner, M.D.: It is very sci-fi looking when you see it happening.
Jennifer Matthews: Surgeon Joseph Wagner recently started using a robotic device to remove prostate cancer. It's called the da Vinci System. This tiny camera becomes his eyes. When doctor Wagner moves his hands, the robot moves too.
Joseph Wagner, M.D.: Whatever you do with these instruments, is exactly what happens with the robot.
Jennifer Matthews: Traditional surgery patients have a seven-inch incision. Now they get five tiny ones. Doctor Wagner says they lose less blood, recover in less than half the time and feel better overall.
Benny McLamb recently found out he had cancer.
Benny McLamb: I was devastated. I was having breakfast. I just got up from the table and threw the plate, fork, spoon, coffee cup, everything in the garbage, and I sat down.
Jennifer Matthews: He had a robotic surgery one week ago and says he's looking forward to that quick recovery he was promised.
Benny McLamb: Going on vacation, a long vacation. I'm looking forward to enjoying life without worries.
