Drawing a Cartoon Horse
Hi, I’m Danny Green, I’m an illustrator and a cartoonist and a teacher here at the Guilded Page in Santa Fe, New Mexico. And today we’re gonna learn to draw a cartoon horse. And we’re gonna start draw the basic shapes. We’ll start with the, draw a couple of triangles for the ears. We’ll draw his mane here, just little quick lines showing the hair of the mane. We’ll draw the eyes and little ridges on the side of the head here. Draw the head here, shape of it, taper down. Sort of the round end point to the mouth of the horse there, tapered up to the sort of two round forms tapering in, taper next to each other. And just a little small mouth and legs are very slim on horses. And big bulbs for the knee there and draw the hooves. A big rump on the horse there, round that a little bit, and very similar to the dog, we have a little notch for, little notch on the hind quarters of horses, so notches out there. Then we draw a taper there, turning out the hoof there. Give it a nice big draw nice curves, so we’ll just, nice little billowing tail there. Now we’ll move on next to our ink line, again using a brush pen filled with ink. And got to be careful with horses, girls like horses a lot, and they’re very critical on how you draw horses, so. Gonna make sure we do a good job here, and lots of long elegant lines with horses. Even cartoon, things like this and little fur areas for the hooves, terminates a little fur there. We’ll draw the eyes and little ridges on the head here. Draw a couple of triangles for the ears, long tapering lines for the body here. And draw the whole sway of the back there. Wanna make sure that it’s not too sway back, this roundness of the rump there. And we’ll just add our lines in, just little quick strokes for the fur. Little, little quick random strokes kinda do insinuate fur there, insinuate hair. Okay, next we’ll add some color to the horse. We’ll start in with some yellow, more of a, more on the midrange there. We’ll just add some yellow around there. We’ll add yellow on the, we’ll add brown later, just sort make him a, sort of a great yellowish tan kinda, kinda deal. And, okay. We’re done with that, then we’ll add our brown as well, just sort of combine the two colors and when it, it should make a nice yellowish tan to the horse. Buck skin kinda, kinda deal. And again adding that to the, to the, of course we’ll fur more we’ll just go brown, we’ll just add more of this solid brown to the, to the tail, added to that. Okay, now we’ve added our color, and take our stump again and let’s start smearing around and make sure colors distributed all over like we have in the previous drawings. Just keep in mind your shade giving it more of a round form. Okay, and there we are, we have our cartoon horse. And please stay around for the next video. Next we’ll be drawing a cartoon lion.
