The most often asked question in hockey is, how will I put the puck in the net? Well, pay attention kids, because coming up next we have got Carl with some goal scoring tips.
Carl: Everybody who plays hockey loves to score goals. Here are a few tips to make it easier for you to put puck in the back of the net. Whenever doing physical activity it's very important to warm up your muscles. Here you will see the kids warming up their wrists and shoulders.
When trying to score goals it's very important you take a quick shot rather than a hard shot. Snap and wrist are the two quickest shot releases. When taking a wrist shot, the puck starts on the heel of the stick and runs off the toe. While the puck runs from your heel to your toe, it's very important that you transfer your weight from your back foot on to your front.
The snap shot, much different to the wrist shot, the puck stays in the one place. You lift your stick up to about knee height; you transfer your weight onto your front foot, make contact with the puck once and shoot it through. When taking a snap shot, the puck is positioned just slightly inside your front foot. When scoring goals shooting is important, but one thing that's also important is creating a little bit time for yourself and getting away from your opponents. A great way of doing so is the head fake. What happens is you come towards your opponent; you drop your ear to your shoulder and go opposite way.
When training it's very easy to work on which you are good at. When trying to learn how to score goals it's very important that you vary your drills to work on your forehand, your backhand, shooting in close, some afar or maybe try a deke.
When looking to score goals it's very important that you look through the eyes of the puck rather than your own. From this position all the puck can see is goalie equipment. So now what you need to do is get yourself or the puck to a better position to score the goal, like the opposite side of the net.
When growing up we've all playing bowls. Where do you end? In the middle. We have all thrown a dart to the dartboard. Where do you end? In the middle. Well, guess where the goalie stands? Directly in the middle of the net. It's very important when shooting to consciously think about dodging the goal attender and shooting towards the outside.
The problem is focusing on the tangible object in front of the net which is the goalie. It's very important to ground him out, look for net, and aim for mesh. That's how you score goals.
