Driving ATV in the Gore Range in Vail Valley
Jeremy: All right my name’s Jeremy; I’m just one of the Nova guides here. We’re getting ready to go out on the ATV, its jut one of our high action big adventure trips we offer. We’re going to take them up a little over 12,000 feet and see the two tallest peaks on the state as well as the Gore Range, so hang on, no buckling up and get ready to ride. The great little machine is really getting along way with them, they got an independent suspension, it got air shocks, it got some really nice tires on as well as alternate 4 wheel drive, so it doesn’t always have to be a 4 wheel drive and it’s fully automatic, so really good machine, really safe.
Safety precautions while going on off road trip, just drive to your own ability. Drive to your own speed, that’s about all you can stress on these ATV’s is when your out here driving perilously or driving like a person who probably that might know a little more about the machine is when you have your access. So the main safety is just keep this thing under a speed and control that would be yours and just drops your own ability while you’re out in Colorado.
Areas you won't be allowed to take ATV’s are off trail, please stay on trail. What people do not understand is its all preserved land, you know locations in Colorado. About 10,000 feed you have what’s known as Iceberg Tundra, one of the oldest routes known to man. Hundreds and thousands of years old, so if you’re taking your ATV on your trail, you’re just pretty much tearing up the ground that’s been here for thousands of years, better stay on trail and have a good time, I would suggest ATV tour because you can go places you can't go on a day to day basis, even in the state of Colorado. ATV’s, they can go at a lot of odd spots like where we’re at now, the top of Shining Past where you can really get the tallest views and the mountain views you’re looking for in the state of Colorado as well as splash through some great puddles and get a little muddy while you’re out having a good time.
This area is phenomenal for off road because of all the trails that the mountain established in the 1940’s and 50’s, all these trails that would be taken today have been here for 50, 60 years so it got a lot of water channels that makes you the snow as it erode and take away what we’ve been playing on the day. So this area, not only like I said we’d come up with 12,000 feet and see some of the tallest ranges in the state but just the trail as themselves are very maintained by the states and very safe for all ages.
Off road in the state would be up around Honey Ranch has a beautiful spot, you got the red and white trail that takes you all the way around Sand Stone and even drops you down behind Avon and Edwards, some great trails there, well as out land New Yorkers in Edwards Colorado as well as many different places in the state.
