Host: If someone had droopy eyes late in the day and they called you up to see you what would you be thinking about initially if someone had little droopiness through the eyes and it’s getting progressive late in a day?
Male: I would think first think about a diagnosis called myasthenia gravis.
Host: Besides that or anything else you'll be thinking too.
Male: Sure, there could be other diseases of the muscle itself which and cause the droopiness of the eyes. And also one of the more common clauses of droopy eyes is just aging.
Host: So it’s probably by natural process.
Male: It’s either normal but it’s frequently occurs in people older and causing just droopy eyes because of aging.
Host: You’ve been mentioning that if its only one side of the face acute onset which hearing you might think of something else is that true? Like Bell’s palsy sometimes you see?
Male: Yeah, that interesting that you said about because Bell’s palsy actually a weakness in the facial muscles. And so what you would see in Bell’s palsy is actually the eye that’s the problem we will get the, we will get actually open more. So it won't be a dripping on the eye it will be open more that’s because one of the muscles of the face closes the eye. And so if you loose that closure and then the eyelid is more open and that’s the facial palsy or if you don’t have a cause of a facial palsy and then that’s called Bell’s palsy.
Host: So in other words a history would help a little bit now you have examine the patient.
Male: Right.
Host: So the first thing we’re not saying with the diseases they come to you. You know notice that their both eye seemed to be droopy and they say “The morning I wake it’s not so bad but late in the day this should be most likely what”
Male: Myasthenia gravis.
