Rocking sounds drop the tuning, that’s what I’m talking about right here.
Hi! I’m Neal. Welcome back to the Guitar Tricks Channel. We got a lesson and tip for you this week. We’re going to start off with your tip as how to make your guitars scream. It’s a cool little thing using harmonics. You might notice if you tune your guitar with harmonics
[Demonstration]
Now, this sounds great until you get to the G string and then things are a little bit off. So I’d like to take advantage of that, drop my volume off, I get a little delay going with some chorus, drop the volume off, strike those two harmonics, fifth string G, seventh string B and bring the volume back up.

And a nice screaming marching sound to it then you can also add in a neck bend and a little switch flick. Check it out

And the lesson of the week is from our website, from Kevin Taylor’s lesson on drop D tuning. So here’s what you do, it’s just how it sounds, drop D, you’re going to take your E string and drop it down the whole step to the D note. I’d like to do this just by plucking the D string and the E string and then drop the E string down like that.
Now if you play with the open D chord you could play all strings. It sounds killer. Now if you’re going to play a power chord let’s say an E, you would bar the bottom three strings on the second fret. F would be the same, up half step on the third fret and so what that does is it gives you the flexibility to move around quickly on the fret board for one. So if you’re doing some more newer heavy rock you can really move around the rhythm within all the double bass on that stuff, so like this.

Also, what you can do the drop D tuning, what I like to do is do octaves, let’s say a D major scale, I’ll play the D and the A string and do an octave above it and I’ll play it around with the major scale while keeping the low D string open. It sounds really cool like this.

And use it with a clean sound too. It sounds awesome. I’ll give you an example right here with a nice clean sound, a little coursing, some delay.
[Demonstration]
So, that’s it drop D tuning, a very handy thing to have around, real easy to do and get a nice chunky sound or could just kind of stagnant. It needs some fresh inspiration. You want to try different sound. Drop the E on down to the d and see what you got.
Stopping by and leave me a request if you would like and see if we can whip you up or something in the caldron of tricks over the guitar for a weekly lesson. So have a great week everybody, keep on rocking out. Drop that D and we’ll see you back here real soon. I’m going to drop my D right now. I'm going to drop it like it’s hot. And I’m going to drop it like this D.
