Hi, welcome to easymusiclessons.com. My name is Brandon Cruz and I am going to be showing a variety of lesson related to the drums starting with the basics on how to hold drumsticks, basic vocabulary on just the drum pad and then taking that that you learn on the drum pad on one drum and starting to put it on the drum set as well as various styles. Once you develop a vocabulary on the drums then starting to talk about different styles like jazz, rock, funks.
The first thing that we need to move on to is the basic rudiments. So, the most basic rudiment that you have are single strokes, one hit on each hand. I am going to start with my right hand, if you are left handed, everything you do, you would do the opposite.
The next rudiment I want to talk about is pair of diddles. When you take single strokes and doubles strokes and you combine them, you get pair of diddles.

Now that we talk briefly about technique and balance, we are going to get into our basic drumbeats.

A fill can be as simple as two notes on the snare drum or a bunch of notes all over the drumstick.

Now that we have discuss the variety of techniques on drum set, both the basic drum beats and for basic fills, we can start to use the vocabulary once you practice and make it sound appropriate for different styles of music. So, this is another one that is very common in rock music where you play alternating, right left, right left, bass-bass.

The next section we are going to talk about is funk music. A great example of showing how to use all of these syncopated rhythms is in the style of James Brown music. One of the things that are used besides ghost notes is the delay of the back beat.
