Having the ability to understand drum theory and notation is a valuable asset to anyone serious about playing the drums. When playing in a band, it is our job as drummers to hold steady time.

So mastering the ability to count a wide variety of note groupings and time signatures will benefit you greatly as you learn to play the drums. Put that together with an understanding of how to read sheet music notation and you’ll dramatically improve the way you learn new beats, fills and related patterns.
