A lot of people have trouble producing really nice smooth joints and corners on either brand new drywall work or possibly remodel job that you might be doing around your home. I am going to share today some really good tricks they are going to help you get perfectly smooth joints every single time.
First thing you need to do is to start with the right consistency in your drywall mud. You do not want to use it straight out of the bucket because it is basically too thick. You mix just a little bit of water to make it creamy light cake icing. The next thing you need to do is make sure that the knife that you use has been tooled. Now, what does that mean I will you what, if you buy a brand new knife, often the edges of the knife or the corners are way to sharp and they will easily cut the tape as you go ahead and apply it. Take a simple file and go ahead and round the edges off. I would like to use a knife that is extremely warm and it really never, never tears the tape or whatsoever. The next thing you need to do is to make sure that you put just a little bit of mud in the corner. You do not want to fill the whole knife up with mud just have the knife and apply it on one smooth motion. Do it on both sides of the corner and then you go ahead and embed your tape.
What you do then is go ahead and gently streak out the mud making sure you hold your knife at an angle and as you do that, the mud will flow very evenly off and beyond the tape. Do not do it two or three times once is usually enough, second time only if you have to. If you take too much mud out of the corner, the tape will eventually fall out and we do not want that to happen.
See there is nothing to it.
