Earlobe Reconstruction Surgery

Dr. Travis Stork: As you can see, Dr. Ordon has started his earlobe reconstruction on Ambriya (ph) who stretched out her lobes when she was a teen and now wants them fixed. Before we start, I want everyone to see a picture of what Ambriya's earlobes looked like before. Ambriya started putting these wooden dowels in her ear starting at the age of 17. Dr. Ordon is in the process of trying to fix that problem. Drew, tell us what you're doing. Dr. Drew Ordon: It's done. Well, what you have to do to fix this problem, you essentially have to excise that hole so that you have fresh edges that I can sew together. You can't just sew the hole itself, because you're going to have a very uneven looking earlobe. Now, do you see how fresh those edges look? Now the key -- I think, that's cut. Dr. Travis Stork: And Ambriya, show everyone you don't feel anything. Ambriya: I do not. Dr. Travis Stork: It's been numb. Ambriya: Yes, all numb. Dr. Drew Ordon: That's right. We do this under local anesthesia. Now, you see how -- the key there is that you have -- it's all about recreating the proper rim to that. We're going to get this nice and dry with a little cautery. Dr. Travis Stork: Drew, do you see this commonly where people come in after -- Dr. Drew Ordon: Such a common problem and people don't know where to go. They don't know where to go -- it's not that bad. It is to show she is -- Dr. Travis Stork: I want to call the doctors everyone. Dr. Drew Ordon: -- she is not feeling a thing. So as I stated, the key suture here is the suture that I place in the apex, right? I have to line that up just right, what we call the earlobe rim. A plastic surgery has nothing to do with plastic. It comes from a word just meaning that we reshape or form. So do you see that? We've lined everything up? We have a nice even -- you see that contour, the bottom part of the earlobe? That's the single spot that you have to set. Dr. Travis Stork: So that first stitch is the most important one. Dr. Drew Ordon: Correct. Now we're ready to put some fine sutures in, plastic surgery is all about lots of little stitches, we're going to do that right now. Dr. Travis Stork: Dr. Ordon has been working on our guest Ambriya's holes in her earlobes and it's time for us to see the results.
