Hi there I’m Stacy Reed. And in this video we’re going to explore some green web sites that can help you calculate and reduce your carbon footprint so you can save money and do something good for the planet that we share as well.
So let’s start with MakeMeSustainable. By creating an account here or using your Facebook account to log in, you can join up with a virtual neighborhood to calculate and reduce your carbon footprint. You can keep track on the progress you’ve made as an individual, as a family or an organization. The game of the website is to show that by making even a few small changes to our daily routines and working together as a community, we can become more environmentally and economically responsible.
Zerofootprint is a similar site that gives you an analysis of your ecological impact by gathering a bit of information regarding your travel, diet and home habits. This is a great one for schools because they even provide an online application that encourages kids to take action. It supports competitions and challenges between school classes or groups and kids can choose to collaborate on common environmental goals.
Next up is Green Maven. This is a search engine that focuses on green and sustainable web sites so you can keep up to date on the latest environmental news, trends and info. Now if you prefer to browse rather than search, Green Maven provides a robust directory of web sites sorted alphabetically and by category. They also offer a Firefox plug in that adds Green Maven to the lists of searchable sites in your browsers search field.
Accenture is a technology consulting firm whose commitment to helping firms and businesses doesn’t stop with IT. They’ve rolled out an entire repertoire of environmentally hip tools. Amongst sustainability podcast, green software and even a blog this green assessment diagnostic tool is areal gem for organizations because it analyses your data to provide a free report with quick and long-term ways your company can reduce its environmental impact. It’s also a real eye opener for individuals working within those organizations because we can begin to realize the impact that we make one much larger scale both negative and positive.
Well this is just a sample of the finest green sites on the internet for the environmentally conscious. The links to this site can be found in the show notes below. By the way did I mention that all of these services are free? I’m committed to doing my part and I believe that together we can make a real difference.
This is Stacy Reed signing out. Bye for now.
