Easy Fit to Irregular Surfaces

Hi. I’m Bob Schmidt. Welcome to Home Remodel Workshop. Let’s say you have a flat surface coming in to an uneven surface, how do you handle that? Give us a couple of minutes and we’ll show you have to use this wonderful tool, the scribe.

Here, we have a door that hits the baseboard and doesn’t close all the way to the wall. Set your scribe to the widest part of the gap and then trace along the surface. Take your time and be as accurate as possible. Flooring material including tile, deck surface or hardwood can be handled the same way and give a tight fit. In this case, we want the dry wall to fit tightly against the rock wall. We’ll show you have to give it an easy professional finish. Use the appropriate tool to cut the material that you’re working with. The door fits nice, the flooring looks good and the dry wall can be finished with little touch up and caulk to give you a professional look in all three cases.

So there you go, the scribe. It probably has been around since the building of the pyramids but still works great. We’ll see you on your next project.
