Hey everyone, I am Eric Rochow and this is Real World Green and we are at my sister's garage. Today I am going to give you a simple tip for getting rid of something that I am sure, you all have in your garage or your basement. How many of these paint cans do you have in your garage or basement and you don't quite know what to do to get rid of them? You have painted a room, you have painted your house and you have paint left over. Well, here is the secrets.
Oop, you won't do that. First of all, when you are doing a painting project, go online and there are painting calculators, so you can calculate, how much paint you really need to buy. A lot of us, over buy on paint and then when you have paint left over, if you only have a quarter can of paint left, you can simply pop the lid on it, set it out here, set it away from the kids and the dogs and stuff and let it air dry, it will take a couple days, but it will get thicken up that you can pry it out with a stick and put it into a trash bag and just let it go. Then you can properly recycle the metal can. If there is more than a quarter can of paint left, there is an off the shell product that you can pour in here and it will solidify up the paint and then you could put it in a trash bag or what I like to do is, something simple like shredded newspaper, you can just it with shredded paper, it is a little messy.
I have also heard that Mulch just works just fine, but my favorite is Cat litter. You can take some Cat litter, you can even use Cat litter, pour it in here, let it solidify up, you want to get it to be, like thick oat meal and then you can jump it into a heavy duty trash bag and put it in the trash and then recycle this. You may not realize this, but latex paint is not classified as a hazardous substance, so its a good thing. Isn't it? You are putting it in your house, but you can put dried paint in a trash bag and put it with household waste and its just fine. What they want? They want the metal cans because we can recycle these. Oop, Jesus. Alright, so there we go. Another simple green tip from Real World Green. Come to the green house, green-house.tv and give us your ideas. Do you have a simple tip that might be good for our show? I would like to hear about it, you can also post your own ideas, there is stuff about cooking and gardening and green issues as well. You can put up videos and you can meet a whole bunch of like minded people, there are some pretty cool people out there. Alright, make it a great day and I'll see you later.
