You know, I cannot really think of what would hunt a porcupine. Maybe a bear? I do not know.
Anyway, so whatever stuff in that porcupine was coming out of it. And it is like sneaking in the bushes, making it sound like—picture it going to the bushes and then playing softer, and then as it goes close, it is getting louder, louder, louder, louder. It has gone along with the picture on your head.
So, make the story and go with the story and put it into the music. We all know jazz, right? So, here is something from jazz. (Music playing) And that was it.
So, do you get the point for that? It is all about emotions in your song. It is about picturing images that strike emotions in your heart. So, you are feeling the emotions and you are letting the emotions from inside you go into the keys, and you do that by—if you feel like soft and tender, you touch the keys soft and tenderly, just like the “Lullaby”. Or, if you feel angry or like you are going to someone, you get that feeling into the keys, too. Push them and go into it, and stuff like that.
It is really not an easy subject to teach. It is something that you need to do all up on your own, and if you have that at the keyboard, it is like an emotional killer. It is like hanging all emotion, or just throwing it out of the window. You cannot really do much with a keyboard. So, for those of you with keyboards, try and get a piano as soon as you can.
Next thing we are going to do is, I am going to introduce the Blues Scale. So, this is a kind of scale. I might be able to find it around here. This scale is from the Blues and it is not really that hard to play.
You are going to learn two things here. I am going to start on C, and then we are going one note up and then one semi-tone up. Okay, so you got that. Now, we are going one whole tone away from that key, sort of like this (music playing). So, one, two, three, one, two. (Music playing) So, remember that.
Now, it is the same pattern here. One, two, three, one, two (music playing). So, it is three and then two. Three semi-tones, two semi-tones. So we have (music playing). Okay, got that?
Now, all we are going to do is go up here. Now, we are going to add the next note up, and then we are going to do that again, so (music playing). That is the Blues Scale.
So, you just want to remember this, that and then add a note in between, and that connects your whole Blues Scale together. (Music playing)
So, I use one and then three on this note, and I will tuck my thumb under and play the F (music playing) like that, and then I will put my third finger on F-sharp, and then put my thumb underneath. So, it is like this. (Music playing) Thumb on the G, and then usually the three on B-flat, and then I will probably play this at the four or the five, it does not really matter. You can go with whatever you want, or if you want to keep going up, then you just tuck under your thumb, and then just keep repeating the process. (Music playing) Just like that.
That is kind of cool, I guess. Something to mess around with.
