Next, we’re going to be stepping away from our standard 8th note hi-hat pattern and moving into something called the off beat hi-hats Turn with me to that page now.
Now, the reason that they’re called off beat hi-hats is because we’re not going to be playing them on all the 8th notes anymore. We’re just going to be playing the hi-hat on all the ends. So, it’ll be one end, two end, three end, four end. And again, it’s a great way to take a normal beat and remove all the one, two, three, four hi-hat and just play the ends. Your beat will sound completely different.
So I’ll start really slow at your bass drum foot in your right hand are probably used to always being together. So, this being independent of that now, is going to feel a little bit awkward. Also, you can move this hand over to the right sumo, you can move it to the low tom, you can hit your off beats wherever you want. Let’s go to the examples now and then you can take them to your kit.
