Jenniffer Mathew: Weighing in isn't such a bad thing anymore for Barbara McMackin the pounds of in coming off ever since she became the first person in the United States to get an experimental device called Endo barrier.
Dr. Keith Gersin: Endo barrier is a sleeve that is placed without surgery in to the patience small intestine to help them achieve weight loss.
The gastric sleeve or endo barrier is placed endoscopically through the mouth, and lines the first two feet of the small intestine, it prevents food from being absorbed bullet in the sleeve.
Jenniffer Mathew: Early results from the study show patience, who got the device, lost more weight than those who didn't. Barbra and other patience had the device for a 3 month trial she lost 17 pounds.
Barbara McMackin: I did not feel hungry like I used to, I get into close back in and get in to before our, had more room in a more legal room which was great.
Dr. Keith Gersin: Did you experience any pain up here all.
Jenniffer Mathew: At this point the Endo barrier is only being studied as a temporary fix a prior to weight loss surgery. But Berry after the surgeon Dr. Keith Gersin says its future as non surgical alternative is exciting.
Dr. Keith Gersin: We are looking at a market of between 15-30 million people that could potentially help others.
