Hello, my name is Jim. Welcome to Learn English with Jim. The show that explores words, phrases and idioms that are common in today’s English language.
Today is the first in a series of videos on Customer Service English. Our focus for today is the word “Salutation.” Salutation.
A salutation is a polite expression of greeting or goodwill. A salutation is a polite expression of greeting or goodwill.
Here are few ways that you can give a customer a salutation. Let’s use Wal-Mart as example, okay? Here we go. “Hello! Welcome to Wal-Mart.” “Hello! My name is Jim. How may I help you today?” “It’s a great day to be a Wal-Mart customer. May I be of assistance to you?”
Now, I want to point out three things that are very important when giving a salutation to a customer. Three things that are very important when giving a salutation to a customer.
When you are giving a salutation to a customer, it’s important to first smile, show a friendly demeanor and to make eye contact.
Here in the United States, it is considered rude not to give eye contact when you are speaking to someone. It is also considered bad customer service when you are looking bored or uninterested in the customer or worst yet, to appear angry or antagonistic towards the customer.
Good customer service is so very important, very, very important. If a customer is happy with the attention that they are receiving from a company, then they will spend more money with them and as the company makes more money, they will be able to afford to employ you. Make sense? Okay.
Well, my time is up. I thank you for yours. I’ll see you right here next time with another English lesson. Until then, bye-bye.
Will you be my friend on EnglishCafé?
