The Paracor HeartNet Ventricular Support System. Congestive heart failure or more commonly known as heart failure is a life limiting disease with many unwanted symptoms. Patients with heart failure often have enlarged ventricles the main chambers of the heart that pump blood throughout the body. When the heart enlarges, the ventricles are weakened and they can not pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs. This can lead patients feeling tired, dizzy, or short of breath even while at rest. This video will highlight a new experimental therapy for the heart called the Paracor HeartNet Ventricular Support System. This therapy is intended to be administered in addition to the medical recommendations given by Heart Failures Specialist. The HeartNet procedure is performed during a minimally invasive surgery that usually last about 60-90 minutes. It has been designed to offer patients smaller skin incisions and is performed on the heart while it is beating. There is normally no need to put the heart on a bypass machine. To perform the HeartNet procedure the Surgeon makes an incision on the left chest wall to access the heart from between the ribs. The HearNet delivery system allows the Surgeon to gently attach the device to the heart before advancing the implant onto the heart. With a few simple steps the Surgeon can advanced an elastic support device the HeartNet over the ventricles of the heart and release it securely in place. This devise is designed to provide a light squeeze to the ventricles and to help reduce the work and stress that the heart muscle faces as a result of heart failure. After the surgical recovery period the HeartNet may help patient experience fewer symptoms of their heart failure, as it is designed to halt or slow the progression of the enlargement of the heart often associated with this life limiting disease.
