Well, I got to tell you the gas pills are killing me on my morning commute. So I thought to take a little bit of a different track, get myself on a hard, feel the wind on my face, on my hair, that freedom on the open road, and maybe even save myself a few bucks along the way.
We are at City Biker-Electric Bike Company, we are going to check out some of the sweet rides inside. So why an electric bike?
Well, there is a number of different reasons. First of all is the gas savings. You are not using any gas as pure electricity. They have batteries built into it, there is typically two types, there is the lead gel or the lithium-ion and you charge it every evening, at night when you come home. Typically it takes about four to six hours to recharge the battery, but then they are good depending on the type of bike anywhere from 50 kilometers up to 80 kilometers as far as distance.
You can see you it got some pretty cool looking little units here on a scooter here, and again this is pure electricity and the nice thing about it is that it's motor assisted so that you don't have to have a driver's license, no type of license to actually ride one of these and you can ride them right on the street.
As far as the speed goes not bad I think they top at around 35 kilometers an hour. So it's nice for touring around the town. And I have to look at, see some of the models here, I am going to pick one that I want to ride.
Well, I think that bike was okay but I found my ride here. It's more of the scooter style so you are going to get a little bit more speed. This one has a 48 volt battery, it's lead gel, and typically last for about 9,000 kilometers. So if you were to ride it at every single day, roughly last around a year to year-and-a-half. After that point you have to replace the battery and they go from about $150 to $200 from what I understand.
As far as the cost per kilometer that's where you save the money. 5 cents per kilometer, I challenge you to match that on any motor cycle or a car.
Everything about this is about saving power, even the breaking system helps to regenerate the battery, so you can get about 5-15% efficiency with that and all the lights you see on this particular scooter all LED as well, so really low power consumption.
Well, I am going to see what this thing has got and take it out on the road.
