Essential Fashion for Men Better Audra: Well anyone will tell you that no matter what the occasion a well dressed man, he definitely gets noticed and nowadays the options from men are more plentiful and easier to navigate, thanks to our next guest Tom Julian is a noted Trend Analyst and he has got a second book out. It’s called Nordstrom guide to everyday dressing. The book has some advice, it has fashionably transformed the lives of men and I have to say the women who dress them as well because a lot of times we’re the ones they’re that help pick things out. Good to have you here Tom. Tom Julian: (Fashion Trend Analyst) Hey Audra Great to be here. Audra: So we’re going to focus on work after hours, weekend and then travel. Tom: We like to keep it simple for the guys and when it comes to everyday dressing which is Sunday through Saturday guys are saying let me dress by occasion. Let me figure out what are the pieces that I need that help me to dress for work weekend after hours and occasion so the premise of the book is taking the classic sportswear pieces and putting them according to occasion. Audra: So you’re dressing for work, what’s the focus here, what should guys be paying attention too. Tom: You know Audra right now it’s about a lean modern silhouette and every guy should have a flat front trouser. The pant that we’re looking at is a gray lightweight trouser from Hugo Boss you wear year round. It’s not too form fitting. It has got a relax silhouette and when it comes to the accessories you want to keep the accessories a little more streamlined. No silver tip belts. No square toe shoes but a nice clean belt and a nice lean loafer. Audra: A loafer, okay so guys do have accessories to. They have to pay attention to. Tom: That’s right. Audra: Alright so after hours, you want it a little less buttoned down a buttoned up look. Tom: Well here’s the thing guys say if there’s one place that I can have fun it’s at the bar, it’s at the date, it’s at the vacation spot so give me a fun shirt, we call this a novelty shirt and it’s from Robert Graham. This shirt is all about the buttons, the collar, the cuff and all this signature details. Audra: Would you wear dark jeans with that one. Tom: We really recommend dark jeans, real clean, real classic. You can wear tucked in or tucked out but you can also wear it with dress trousers as well like those gray pants that we showed earlier. Audra: I like that because you want to unwind. You want to feel comfortable after the work day. Tom: And women love it because in a bar you wear that kind of shirt and they start talking to you. Audra: It’s a magnet there you go. Now it’s the weekend you got to have another whole another set of gear for the weekend. Tom: You do and it’s not about sweat clothes and sneakers. It’s about summer staples and for the summer of 2010 it’s all about cool modern staples, the check shirt and the pattern short. Audra: He looks cool I like that. Tom: Exactly, when you look at that shirt you think, oh my God can I really put pattern on pattern but it’s our two to one role, one small to one large or 2 bright color to one solid color. Audra: Right before we go we have to talk about travel because you always say layering is very important you never know where’ you’re going to go. Tom: And closely perform so look for wrinkle free, look for packable.
