Hi! This is Eric with More Help for Ex-offenders and Felons Looking for Jobs. Today we're going to talk about Following up After An Interview. You just had an interview and if you were given an idea of when a decision would be made, be sure to put that date on your calendar, so you call on or around that date.
If you're not contacted within the time specified by the interviewer or if no reply is mentioned, call the interviewer after two or three days to find out if the job was still. Now in a previous video, we talked about interviewing and we mentioned that toward the end of the interview, ask for a business card. The business card will have all of the interviewer's contact information, so you can professionally follow up.
Show your interest in the position you have just interviewed for in a professional way, send a thank you letter. Sending a letter will allow you to mention anything you forgot in the interview, show that you're interested and ask for the job professionally. You would definitely stand out from the crowd with a nicely written thank you letter.
Here we have a sample of a properly written thank you letter. Send a thank you letter up the same as you would any other business letter, with the opening paragraph to express your appreciation for the interview. Of course, if you notice on this particular letter, your name is at the top along with your address and your phone number, also the day's date. Next comes the interviewer's name, the company, the address, city and the state.
Your letter would go something like this, this is the opening.
Dear Mr. Diggets,
Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to meet with me regarding the position of _________. It was a pleasure meeting you.
The second paragraph reinforces your understanding of the position's requirements.
In addition to my qualifications and experience, I will bring excellent work habits to this position. I'm sure that you require people who can be trusted to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision.
The third paragraph expresses your interest in the position and the company.
Once again, thank you for the opportunity to interview for a position with your company. If you request any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
You're going to right your name, but you're going to also sign it. Always sign a business letter.
A formal interview letter is an excellent example of a thank you letter you may send to a larger company. For a smaller company, you can be a little more personal. Buy a box of thank you cards and send personal messages of thanks. Thank you cards are inexpensive and the interviewers will remember them.
