Marlene: Hi! My name is Marlene and I'm from Alhambra, California. My question is it true that an excessive levels of drinking is related to high blood pressure? Trey Causey: Marlene you're quite right in that excessive alcohol consumption is associated with high blood pressure. The exact mechanism by which alcohol causes blood pressure to go up is unclear, but it probably has to do with alcohol affecting chemicals that affect the tone in the muscles and the blood vessels, but certainly this is a correlation we see independent of factors like obesity rates or age.
