Hi! This is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder and welcome back to our special buttescotch.com 10-part series on Google Earth.
On this segment, we’re going to look at details. In Google Earth, you determine the level of details you see by controlling layers. So, I’ve zoomed in to earth a little bit. There’s a link in the show notes. You can download Google Earth. Now, over here is a tab called layers, you can shrink it down if you want but what you see on Google Earth depends on what layers you determine to have. So first off, let’s see roads. I see immediately we get roads coming up. Here are some interstate highways, here are some local highways, and we can pull back a little bit to get a better perspective of the roads.
Now, perhaps you want to see boarders and labels. For now,we can see, here’s Arkansas, here is Memphis, up here’s Missouri. We can say that we want to have the weather. And now you’ll see around different areas in the country, it’s showing us the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. If you’re looking in the ocean you can click ocean details. You can turn on traffic and it will show you traffic signals and show you the level of traffic on the roads. So, in Google Earth you have complete control over what you see and some of these items actually have sub-categories. For example weather, you can tell it not to use radar, you can tell it to show you hurricane season two thousand and nine. You can even track a current hurricane like Bill.
So, these are things that you control as far as the details you see in Google Earth by manipulating layers. Don’t forget that this is a 10-part series and be sure to listen to all 10 parts.
