As your scoping out the inviting in lush Kansas prairie, you’re probably not looking for monsters, but Kansas was once the breeding ground for all sorts of bizarre creatures and sea phenomena. No matter where you go, this ready made adventure will amaze you.
The names says it all, T-Rex Cafè in Kansas City, Kansas is the family adventure devoted to the most notorious of carnivorous legends and its prey. But don’t stop there, Lawrence is home of the KU Natural History Museum and the Mosasaur, the largest lizard that’s ever lived. Kansas was a tomb turf 144 million years ago. Then watch the trail to Wichita where Ivan the terrifying makes its presence known. The Tyrannosaurus rex was discovered only recently and assembled within these walls at the Museum of World Treasures, a total of 10 dinosaurs thrive here. Another crowd favorite the two royal Egyptian mummies, check out the incredible preserved condition of the hair and facial features.
Now it’s time to be into a different era, the Cretaceous period, visit Mushroom State Park in Marquette where you can inspect and touch the geologic textures and shapes that existed 66 million years ago.
Time for a break, ponder all your newly explored findings while you stop for a drink or buy to eat in a hip Chestnut Street District in Hays, but don’t get too relax. Your fossil hunting is far from over. The Cretaceous marvels abound at the nearby Sternberg Museum of Natural History. The most talk about piece, the fish within a fish. A six foot swimmer was swallowed by a 14 foot sea creature. We then quickly came into his own demise only to be found in the 1950’s by the museum founder and what better way to complete you adventure than getting in to the action first hand.
