Extreme Website Makeover - Linking Buttons to Pages

Now, for other change, we want to add the links to our buttons at the top. So, we actually have a functioning navigation system. I am just going to go over the file menu and close up our Assets folder and there we can easily see all the pages that we have just made.

We will use the property window set up the links. I will just select each one of the buttons starting with the alien crew button. From the link in the property window, I am going to use the point to file indicator. To use that all you have to do is click and drag over to the file window and simply point at the file you want to link it to.

In this case, the crew page. You can see that Dreamweaver manages dropping in the correct path for that link and we do not have to worry about typing or any of those things. We will set up the gallery page in the same way. I will select the gallery graphic and in the property window, I will use the point file tool to point to the gallery page.

Now, we are going to be doing something different on the options page, so I will go right to “What We Do” button and set that one up the same way. Our links to the home and the “Alien Stuff” page are up as top navigation element.

I am going to do those with text links by selecting the text and in the same way we did the graphics. I am going to go down to the link box in the property panel and point to the index page for the home text and will select the alien stuff text and point to the stuff page.

Now as we said before, it is customary to link the logo up to the home page as well. So, we will just make a redundant link by clicking on the logo graphic. We will link that up the same way to the index page and down here at the bottom, I would also like to set up the basic contact link on our pages. I will just select it as well.

Now in this case, I am not going to link this up to a page but I am going to link up to an email address. We can easily do this in Dreamweaver using the insert bar set to the common menu and we use this feature here that looks like an envelop which will allow us to set up an email link.

All we need to do is add our email address to the dialog box. I will send this to info@alienauto.com. We will click “OK” and it is going to set the link up properly for us.
