What you see to the right of your screen is an acronym, which stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid that is the form that you have to fill out every single year, in order to qualify and receive any grants, loans to scholarships.
The best time to fill out that FAFSA form is in the first week of January. You cannot go before then and you use a previous year’s tax returns, in order to fill out that numbers. Now, six weeks later, you will get from the Department of Education an Student Aid Report, which will referred to those numbers and hopefully by that time, you will have your latest tax returns that will allow you to change the numbers in the student aid report and from those numbers the Department of Education will send them to the colleges exactly what your expected family contribution is going to be. Otherwise known as an EFC number and that number is going to reflect which you can afford to spend.
Now, that is the short version of how to fill out the FAFSA form and what you are going to do. The reality of the FAFSA form is a bit disturbing, because there are some complicated questions within the FAFSA form. The questions and there meanings are literally up for grabs. The colleges will see that you will have made some mistakes in filling up the FAFSA form. They are not going to call you to tell you that you made a mistake, they do not care because especially if it is in their favor, how about that?
So, my suggestion to you is to go on to the web. There are some very reliable companies that can help you with the filling up of the FAFSA form, so that it is accurate because it is an awful lot of money at stake and I encourage you to visit those sites.
Good luck to you, I am Paul Hampel.
