Female: Once you’ve get some fabric selection tips from our Interior Designer
Robin Strangis.
Robin Strangis: Before you begin to select your fabrics for your corners it’s really helps to
develop a design concept and to do a floor plan and I really like to use this
magnetic groom planning kit to lay out the floor plan and it helps you
determine where you will be placing things and what to look for when you
go shopping. And you can use one of this or you can drop out of graph
paper and if you’re struggling with developing a design concept it really
helps to go through some of your decorating magazines and tear out the
pages of things that appeal to you. You might find that you are attract at
the certain colors or certain fabric or even certain styles and create a little
idea file that you can refer to later. And then when you go out and shop for
fabrics see if they have fabric samples available that you can barrow and
you can take them home and look at them in your own room because the
lighting will change and they look totally different when they get them
into your own room. For more information on selecting fabric, wall
covering and paint go to the menu and click on decorating tips.
I want to show you some decorating tips to help you get your color
scheme going base on fabric, color and pattern. Now, this first scheme is
contemporary and we base it on the serial rug. The turquoise and the
brown are the main colors that we wanted to repeat. And so we cover the
corners in a brown and turquoise fabric and added this ball G metric
pattern and then I always like to look at the scheme for the potential wall
color and in this case we have three options we could either do the walls
and a deep brown, use the turquoise or do a neutral and I think in this case
the neutral would be a great combination and the wouldn’t be so dark.
Now on the second scheme, we base this scheme on this fabric with some
more traditional and a little more conservative scheme but we pull out the
yellow, the coral and green and with the neutral carpet would be a very
beautiful quit room and I think a good choice for wall color here would be
the yellow.
And then finally this room is for a child and it all starts with wallpaper
border, really bright fun and intense colors and we pulled out the pink and
the coral and the good, hot pink and then we found this wonderful rug to
go with it. And because these colors are also intense I think painting the
walls in a white would be a really good choice because you need to give
your eye a place to rose. Here is another tip, when you are working with
the floral fabric make sure you are aware of the direction of the pattern.
Most flowers grow up and you wouldn’t want to apply your fabric upside
down and have them growing the wrong direction. Now, there are some
floral fabrics that have random all over the patterns like this one so it
doesn’t make any difference which way is applied but you just don’t want
to see your fabric upside down on your project. And one other word of
warning, some fabrics are woven across the roll and some are woven up
the roll where the pattern, direction could be either way. So if your making
drape reason you want along continue us piece of fabric make sure your
pattern is woven the right direction for your application. So if you think
your through with your project start with the plan and plan your pink
colors, plan your fabrics, go end up with the beautiful project.
