Welcome back to Facebook for grownups. Now that you’re all a signed up for Facebook account, you’ll probably want to find some friends or coworkers you know who are already using Facebook. Click on find people you know. You’ll be presented with a couple of ways to find people you may know, you can enter in your email address and password and Facebook will search through your contacts and display people in your address book who are already using Facebook.
Here are three people in my address book who are already using Facebook. You can check the box next to their name and choose add as friends and now receive a request which they can either accept or deny. If you don’t want to search for friends through your address book then check out discover people you may know. Facebook has selected these people based on the information I used when signing up.
You can click on their name to view a larger image and then choose to add them as a friend, send them a message or view their friends. Note that yours and other user’s profiles are kept private until a mutual friendship is established. The only items visible are photo, their name and that they belong to a network.
If you still don’t see anyone you know, you can enter in a name or email address here and Facebook will check to see if anyone matches your search. Adding friend allows you to possibly connect with people you both know expanding your network of friends even further. After you’ve used Facebook for a while, you may start receiving friend requests from people you know and people you don’t know. You decide who you want to add as a friend and then your private information will be shared unless you accept their request.
You can also always remove someone as a friend if you decide you don’t want to share information with them anymore. After you found some friends to interact with on Facebook, you want to start creating your profile.
