Welcome back to Facebook for grownups. There are a few things you may notice in your Facebook Profile that you didn’t add yourself, like a Mini-Feed and wall posts.
I’ll start with the Mini-Feed. The Mini-Feed is like your own play by play of your activity on Facebook. Whenever you update your profile with new information or become friends with someone, it will all be displayed in your Mini-Feed. The reason is so that your friends will be able to see if you’ve changed or added things without having to search for it.
It’s all right here. This information is also spread out to what is called the News Feed. The News Feed is your friends and networks Mini-Feeds combined. It’s the first thing you’ll see when you lock in the Facebook so you’ll know right away if anyone you know has added something new to their profile. Feel free to remove many feed stories by clicking on edit and delete.
You can also visit your privacy settings where you can choose exactly what you do and don’t want other people to see. I’ll go over your privacy more in a later video in the series. The wall is where you and your friends compose messages and shoutouts to each other. You can also record a video with your webcam, post photos and share links to new stories.
Down here at the bottom is Facebook chat. If any of your friends are online, you’ll see a number next to online friends. You can click on it to pop open the window and select someone to chat with. You may also see a notification here if someone has sent your message written on your wall or shared something with you. If you’d rather not chat with anyone you can select to go offline and no one will know you’re currently logged in to Facebook.
You can also pop out the chat window if you want to navigate away from the Facebook. You can change your chat settings and choose to show wall stories and chat, play sound when you have a new message to keep the online friends window open, where to only show names in online friends.
You could also add things to your profile called Applications. Applications can range from photo albums to games you can play with friends. You can find more applications to add to your profile by clicking on browse for more applications. These are applications suggested to you but you can also browse the ones with the most active users and the newest. When you click on the application name, you’ll be brought to a page with more information and you can add it to your profile. You just need to allow access to your profile if at anytime you want to remove an application because you don’t use it or if it’s causing problems to your account, just click on remove, you can remove any applications that you want.
Remember, there are 10 parts to this series so don’t forget to check out the other parts in the Facebook for grownups series.
