Rebecca Britain: Hi I'm Rebecca Britain and welcome to watchmojo.com in the part two of our interview with Amberlin. Host Stephanie gets to ask the band about their philosophy as well as their humanitarian efforts.
Stephanie: You co-founded an organization called Faceless Internationals, wondering if you could speak of it more about this.
Stephen Christian: Well it's just an organization inviting everybody or anybody can go along, it doesn’t, you don’t have to be in a band, you don't have to be in the entertainment business. We just go to a country and whatever the need is, we try to fill it. Whether it's to fight human trafficking or go down to Guatemala and work with fair trade coffee growers or we're going this summer to an orphanage in the Ukraine and just helping with the building construction and working a lot with the kids.
Stephanie: So you guys travel to Kenya to talk about AIDS awareness and you also went to India for human trafficking to educate about that, so what do these causes mean to you guys?
Stephen Christian: We realized that like, humanity is much bigger than Amberlin. It's not our whole world isn't just surrounded by music. I mean we as a North America, take it so much for granted like the fact that we've been absolutely blessed and living into a first world country with opportunities and education, stuff that like.
So life I think has purpose when it's not about ourselves and it's all about other people and it's about you know, helping a collective instead of just me, myself and being so egocentric. The outside of Amberlin, I think that was the altruist aspect of it all. Kind of was like integrated from day one, we never sat down and like “Okay we're going to be one of gold records, we want millions of dollars.” It was like “you know what, let’s go see the world, let's go have great time with our friends, go share and on that top of that then we start to get involved with humanitarian causes like everything from Tom shoes to habitat to humanity, to right love on our arms and stuff like that so it’s just kind of been integrated in our daily lives, you know, as Amberlin.
