Brian: I’m Brian of Be Better Guys.com A Guys Guide to Getting a Life. We’re
talking about the fundamentals of a man’s wardrobe and we’re talking
about shirts. Dress shirts and casual shirts, the great thing about shirts
nowadays particularly is that their fitted now for guys who are athletic.
You don’t have all these extra fabric. It’s Dave that’s show you here. They
look good, they compliment your suits, they compliment your jeans and
you want to think about shirts that can work in more than one place not
just for casual but for work and for going out at night as well.
First we’re going to talk about how many shirts you need. For work, we’re
going to suggest you have at least 6 shirts sitting anywhere between 6 and
12 shirt to be able to get you through the week. You want to think about
colors, you want to think, you make sure you have at least some white
shirt, a couple of white shirts two to three, blue is always a good color. It
stay with a solid and will go with almost everything you’re wearing.
Then you want to try looking at different colors and different patterns.
Some people really like French cuffs I think David has got one right here.
These are sharp really snazzy, maybe too much for your office, maybe too
much for the job you have. Most people are going to go with the
traditional— cuff similar to what I have here and the type of cuff is a style
issue that you can choose for yourself.
Then you also want to think about the type of color you wear and that’s
going to be influenced by the shape of your face, a spread collar is not
going to look good with a guy with a round face, a two-pointed collar is
not going to look good on a guy with a very angular face. But the collar
will go along way towards creating a silhouette, a look that gets part of
whatever you’re wearing and that’s a good thing to keep in mind.
The next thing you want to think about a pattern. These are the wonderful
blue and yellow stripe shirt here, this is fantastic. But we also have some
other examples here. We have just a straight white shirt which could get
you through most anything you need but the, we have this plaid shirt, this
window plain pattern shirt. It’s a subtle gray with well yellow in it so it’s
bolt pattern that is a muted color that will go with a gray, will go with a
tan and it will look fantastic.
I’m wearing a check shirt here, a little purple and lavender. It’s a great
color. It works really well with a great suit. So as we now talked about
work shirts, we just talk about what you can wear when you’re not at
work. Casual shirts, you probably want to do the same number of shirt, six
to ten.
Polo shirts everyone knows are very comfortable. We have a couple here
with this blue one and a white one then you get yourselves some camp
style shirts which this is a really nice one here, this black one and that’s
great for wearing on weekends, wearing on during the summer some
offices you can probably get away with wearing that and that’s fantastic if
you can.
This is a casual shirt. Now because it’s short shirt or anything because it’s
similar to the long sleeve work shirt here but it’s got a little detailing with
the patches on the elbow. It’s a little bit softer because you don’t have the
rigid collar that you will need to hold the tie. It’s a little bit more relaxed
so do you got some great check with blue and a little black in it and this is
wonderful. You wear this with paired jeans going out at night and it would
be a fantastic look for you to have.
So next we’ll be talking about ties.
