Brian: I’m Brian Joyner of Be Better Guys.com The Guys Guide to Getting a
Life. We’re talking about the fundamental of a man’s wardrobe and we’re
starting with the suit which I think is a quintessential piece for any man in
building a wardrobe. Not everyone needs to wear suit everyday but there
will come a point at some point that be in a wedding, a job interview,
anything that you’ll need to have a suit and the thing about a suit is that it
is in itself a complete piece.
The suit with a shirt, a tie, a sweater, anything like that, the suit already
takes care of 90% of what you need to do and it when fitted to you when
you pick a good color you pick appropriate style for yourself it’s perfect.
So we’re going to talk about a couple of different things about suits and
one we’re going to talk about how many suits you need. Three to five suits
depending on what you do for a living.
We’ll say at least a dark gray suit some of which I’m wearing, a pin stripe
suit some of which that David is wearing here, a Navy Suit and then if you
live in colder place you’ll probably want to look for something like a
heavier flannel for the cold weather and then if you live on a warmer place
of Florida or Los Angeles something like that you’re going to want to go
with something a little bit lighter.
For example we have a poplin suit right here. This is perfect as a cotton
suit, perfect weight for a summer and it’s warm and it’s nice readable easy
to work with. Here we have a dark Navy suit here; this is also a cotton
weight suit. The wave of it the 12 on it is a little bit heavier, you’ll
probably wear this for a couple more months.
The next thing about a suit we want to talk about is how it fits. Without
getting too far gone on this, there’s not going to be a suit you’re going to
buy off of a rack that’s ever going to fit you. You’re going to have to get a
tailor, but it needs to fit you as well as possible when you pick it up and
that means across the shoulders and back.
Dave could you turn around for a second?
David: Sure.
Brian: Across here you want to make sure it’s long enough here and you want to
make sure it’s long enough in the sleeves. You can shorten your sleeve,
you can shorten the jacket, you can shorten the pants but you can’t create
more fabric. Your tail is not a magician so the last thing we’re going to say
about suits and this gets back to my hole point of what the suit does for
you, it is a perfect item. You’re walking down the street from 50 feet away
wait someone can see the suit and see how it fits you. They can see the
silhouette and they know immediately that you’re a sharp dressed guy.
Next we’re going to talk abut shirts.
