Hello I’m Aaron Marino from Alpha M Image Consulting. Today I’m going to discuss
one of my biggest fashion pet peeves and your thinking we’ve already covered pleated
pants and we know how you feel about tapered jeans. But there is something else that I
see time and time again with the clients that I work with that drives me absolutely insane
and it’s an easy fix. What is it, what is this pet peeve of mine you may ask? It is the
button-down collar. That’s right ladies and gentlemen; I’m not a fan of the button down
collar. I see a guy and he’s looking sharp, great suit, good shoes, nice tie, I make my way
up to his neck and boom there they are 2 little evil buttons staring at me like head lights.
In my opinion, you might as well put a pocket protector in your shirt pocket it makes you
look like a nerd and I’m trying to avoid and help you making these mistakes so what do
you do, do you just unbutton the collar and you’re good to go, no. If the collar does have
buttons you need to button them, if not you’re going to look even more like a hot mess so
you’re thinking now, “Well if I don’t button my collar down, the collar has the tendency
to flip up and I look like the flying nun. Well if that’s happening to you may be because
your collar does not have collar stays in them.
Collar stay, what is it? It’s a little piece of plastic that fits nicely right into this little
pocket of the collar, what this does it’s a rigid piece of plastic and keeps your shirt collar
rigid and flat, it doesn’t allow it to flip up. Now if you take your shirts to get dry cleaned
you need to take the stays out prior to actually taking them. Reason being, when they
press it, sometimes it gets a little bit hot and it can melt and distort the collar at those days
get all wrinkly and funky so do you yourself and do me a favor, get rid of those button
down collars and get into a collar without buttons, you’re going to look so much more
sexy, slick and sharp and I’ll see you back here real soon and thanks for tuning in, bye-
bye.
