Fashion for Men - How to Shop for Jeans
Hello I’m Aaron Marino from Alpha M Image Consulting. Today we’re going to discuss
jeans and I’m very excited to talk about them because in my opinion jeans are the most
fun versatile and potentially fashionable pair of pants that you have right now at home.
But shopping for jeans can be confusing if you’re not familiar with all the lingo or
dialogue that is associated with jeans so today I want to help answer those questions.
Let’s start with an easy one a jean is washed. All the wash refers to is the jeans cover it
goes from dark to light and everything in between. You have very dark wash jeans
something like this. This would be a medium wash. I don’t have a very light wash and I
don’t recommend you have one either or else it’s going to be reminiscent of you know
the 80’s, however this fall the dark wash jeans with minimal distressing is going to be
very popular that brings us to number two, distressing.
All distressing is, is the manufacturer trying to make the jean look very worn out. It goes
from mild distressing or no distressing to— you know in some cases very distressed. This
is an example of distressing see that little hole, no big deal very fashionable your going to
pay more for jeans to look older though, kind of funny.
Next thing is the rise, now the rise refers to the length of the crotch if you will of the pant.
Now regular rise is sort of old school and it’s going to come up higher and hit closer to
your belly button and the lowest being the low rise which is going to be lower. Now my
personal opinion is that the low rise looks best on everybody reason being it makes your
torso appear longer but simultaneously making your legs look longer because you don’t
have a bunch of fabric in the crotch.
Now the last thing we’re going to talk about is going to be the fit. Now you’ve heard of
classic fit, straight fit, baggy, boot cut all the fit really refers to is the construction of the
leg. Now our classic fit is going to be a bit more tapered and they’re not the best in my
opinion reason being is that with the tapered ankle meaning that it is more narrow in the
ankle than it is at the knee. It’s going to cause your pant like to actually bunch up around
your shoe. I would go with the straight leg or possibly even a boot cut to allow the pant to
open up around your shoe giving you a longer leaner look.
Baggy jean not very flattering on many people at all, just a lot of fabric, it tends to make
you look a little bit shorter so go on and get your jeans, you can dress them up, you can
dress them down but now you know how to shop for them and to buy them and I’m sure
you’re going to look slick and fantastic all the time. Take care, have a great day and you
look in those jeans, you know it, bye-bye.
