Colin: Hi! My name is Colin from Austin, Texas and my question is, can occasional fasting help reduce my risk of diabetes? Linda Delahanty: Colin, it's not so clear whether occasional fasting could help reduce the risk of diabetes, but what we do know is that losing weight over time, 5 to 7% of your body weight and exercising 150 minutes a week can reduce your risk of developing diabetes by 58%. So if you can manage your eating in such a way that you actually lose 7% of your body weight and maintain an activity level at 150 minutes, you really have a good chance to prevent diabetes.
