Austin: Hi this is Austin in Austin, Texas. Now I was wondering if fasting is a safe way to cleanse your digestive tract. David Rubin: Well Austin, cleaning up the digestive tract is not really necessary, your stomach and intestines clean themselves out every single day by their nature and the way they work. Some people think they should clean out their digestive tract in order to remove toxins, but there is never been any good evidence that toxins accumulate in the lining above bowels or in our liver. Therefore we don't really advocate cleaning out your intestinal tract and fasting is not a good way to do this in any event. Because your body needs energy and eating and providing nutriention is more important than starving yourself.
