Hi, welcome to Mommy Matter. I'm Shannon with babyssentials.com. Here today to talk to you about what fathers should know before heading to the hospital for baby to be born. First and foremost, you want to know what's about to happen. Father should be in attendance with the birth classes, the preparing for baby classes. You want to know what about to happen so that you are not surprised.

Next, you want the dad to be included in creating a birth plan. There’s a lot of things to consider and you want to have kind of an agenda. You can't totally call the shop with how the flavor is going to go down. But you definitely want to be involved in the planning, so you know what your wife wishes and what you're wishes are.

Next, you want to know when to ask for help and when to follow expert opinion. This goes back to your birth plan. You have your hope in how this is going to happen but there's a time when you have to kind of layback and follow the expert. It may not go down the way you're expecting.

Next, this may take a while at the hospital. You don’t want to be swayed by what you’ve seen on TV, there in, there out and there's a baby, couple of pushes. You might be at the hospital for a little while or the birth center and you want to plan accordingly whether that means that you're packing to be there with your partner for a couple of days or you're taking care of things at home. This way, you're partner’s mind is free to really focus on bringing baby healthy and happy into the world.
