Faux Stone Wall

Ahmed: So here’s what we got going, okay. This is your detached garage which we’re calling your snack shack. Okay? Were going to totally reface it, we’ve go a very cool rocky veneer that’s going all over the face of that. So right now it looks like a shanty but it’s going to look like a beautiful little structure. Aaron: Hey Dave, we’re ready to put on the tar paper on the snack shack. Dave: All right. Aaron We’re going to use a staple gun. Let’s start here in the corner. Just spread it just a little bit below that wood there. Dave: All right. Aaron: What’s this going to do it’s going to keep the snack shack a little bit water-resistant. Help me just run this out and just staple away. Let’s put this locked on top of the tar paper and what we’re going to do is put a scratch screwed over this. This is going help fold the—your whole entire wall together. This is the last step for the day Dave. We got to let this dry for tomorrow. We can go glue in our foam tomorrow. Dave: Then just keep glued back to the face of this? Aaron: Uh-hmm. Dave: They won't break off rank? Aaron: No, they’ll be real strong. You have to chisel one off Dave: Wow. Male Once we get a mortar on here, we want to go back. The reason why it’s called a scratch coat is because you want to scratch it up so the rocks will set on here a little better. So basically, you just want to run the serrated trowel like this across and they give you bumps and lines so it will stick better tomorrow. Just gently pull across and that’s all we need to do. It’s ready. Amed: This is architectural stone, okay? So it’s not fake stone. It’s architectural stone in the sense that it’s engineered to look like the real deal. Male It’s thin, it’s obviously lighter than a real stone would be and it’s going to go up a lot faster. Aaron: We got a scratch coat done yesterday, it’s all nice and dried up so we’re ready to put the stone on. So we’re going to put it at that corner on first starting in the corner on the way over. You want to put about a half inch of mud in the center there looks like that back on top of the other way it’s all uniform Make sure you take care that this is all in line with that chalk line here and inspect it pretty good. Just give a little tap with that, real gentle. Right that way. That’s good, that’s your first one. All right put her on this you last piece. Male: Ooh yeah. Aaron: That’s it? Male: I think that’s it.
