Host: Should I feed a newly adopted dog what they fed him or her at the shelter? Kevin Simpson: Well, it’s in the best interest of the dog to at least check with the organization that you’re adopting him or her from to find out what they're currently feeding him and also the schedule that they're on. If you plan to change your dog’s diet to a new formula, it’s in their best interest to at least do it gradually. Sudden changes in a dogs diet can cause digestive irritations, to include upset stomach which your dog cannot really and readily in formula of, or loose bowels which is pretty obvious so its best to do it gradually and also stick to a high quality pet food when that’s readily available for purchase.
