Hey guys, this is E. Meek 77. We got a message from somebody, who wants to know how to do the cop’s effect, where the guy’s face is blurred out, so you cannot tell the identity or the shirt on the brand name is blurred out like an MTV, so you cannot see the brand name. And, as for the analysis on the second time of the news, so were bared with me. But, I will cut in there and start fooling around and this is what I come up with. So, I got a clip of me in the canvas, load it up in the canvas and I am going to use this as an example. So, the first thing we want to do is make a duplicate copy of this track of your clip and lay it on third track above your track. As you can see, this leaves a space in between. That means a clip is on track one, no clip on track two and the same clip duplicate copy on track three.
Now, what we will go to do is go over our generators tab, right here. It shapes circle, and this again is a circle and are generates tab. We can go in an adjusted size if we wanted to. You know, a head of time to make it more accessible, so you can see what we are doing, we can find tune up later. Now, what I want to do is, go down to my time line and set in and out points around my clip that I want to add this effect to. So, I will go to the beginning hit I and I will go to the end hit O and now I have my in and out point set and they noticed, I want to change my source track to track two. This means whatever I apply will be applied to track two and not to track one, but I want to over write this clip. We want to upload to the middle track here. So, you make sure you change your source track to track two.
Now that we have in and out point, just click and drag over to fit to fill and boom! it will fill your circle in the middle. Now, that we have that, what we going to do now is go over to our effects and find the blur and drag it to the track on V3. The top track and that will apply blur. Double click it to load it to the viewer. Go to your filters control and take the radio set to about 30 and that will blur the clip pretty good, 27 to 30 something like that. Now, we have our blurred clip. Now this where magic comes into play, right click or control click on your track on V3, your third clip on the top, go down to composite mode and click travel mat luma. As you can see, here at my canvas, boom! I have a blurred spot with that circle is. You can double click to your circle; go in to your controllers tab and your motions tab and click the center button and this will allow you to over hitting the canvas. Adjust the center and put the blur, where you want it, as you can see him blurring around and I want to put it right there on the center of my face and that is that we have our cop’s effect.
This is just a real fast way; there are several ways to do it. If there is any motion in the video, you have to key frame it or send it to motion and use motion tracking. Either way, if you want to use menu key frames you can do it right inside final cut. If not you can send it to motion and let it do all the work, but I do not have enough time to cover that in this tutorial. So, if you need to know how to do that, pm me or message me.
