Hey guys, this is E Mix 77, real fast I just want to teach you all some editor’s lingo and I am going to show you how to do an asymmetrical edit and this is what editor’s refer to as editing in two different directions at the same time I guess. So what you want to do is go over here to the fourth button down and if you click and hold, you will get your ripple and roll tool. Click your ripple tool.
Now, as you can see, I have an edit point here and I have a gap in audio here so what I do if I hold the command key and click on this side of the edit, it will highlight that edit point and if I keep holding my command key and come down here and click on this side of the audio, like that right there, it will highlight that side.
So now, I have got both of them selected. Now, when I come up here and click and drag, as you can see, I am editing in two directions, the space in between the audio is getting shorter and I am also lengthening the I will show you a caption clip in the end. So as you can see, this is an asymmetrical edit. I am editing three points at once or two points at once. This clip over here is being lengthened, this clip here is being shortened. So that is how you do an asymmetrical edit guys. That is what editors are referring to when they say that. I just wanted to let you know that that is what that was. As you notice, the gap has gotten smaller and this clip has gotten longer so that is what an asymmetrical edit is. I hope you all learned something and I will see you next time.
